New National Cellular Phone Business Sprint Latest Entry to Ongoing Development at Charles Pointe

There’s not been a building permit filed with the City of Bridgeport as of the start of this past week, but according to two individuals – one of which who is the owner of the building in question – a new national business tenant is on its way to Charles Pointe.

Recently, developer Dave Biafora said that more than 1,000 square feet that was available at the Commons Building One at Charles Pointe has been taken. Biafora, the head of Metro Property Management that develops property all across the region, said the space that will be partially filled was previously occupied by a similar business.

“The area we’re filling up is the location of the former U.S. Cellular at Charles Pointe,” said Biafora. “We have reached an agreement with Sprint to use up a portion of the space.”

There was roughly 2,400 square feet available and about half of that will be used by Sprint, Biafora said. He added that he’ll continue to actively market the remaining property.

The area in question is best known for being the retail strip that features Mia Marghertia, Mia Market and Bridgeport Family Pharmacy among others. Biafora and his company own that building as well as the building that houses Meagher’s Irish Pub.

“We think it’s a good addition,” said Biafora.

Bridgeport Community Development Director Randy Spellman said Monday no permit was filed. However, he said he has been told of the arrival of the new business.

“I have been made aware that they are coming, which is good news when you see vacant space filled,” said Spellman. “I’m certain that it will be there, but it’s not official to us until the permits are filed. That should happen soon if things are progressing as I’ve been told.”

The Commons building have produced much of the retail activity and construction in the past few years – outside of residential – at Charles Pointe. Currently, the new Greater Bridgeport Convention & Visitors Bureau building is also under construction at the massive development just off of Jerry Dove Drive.
