One New Business is Definite and Second Likely on Way to Bridgeport along City's Main Street Corridor

It’s just one building along Main Street that’s seen a host of businesses throughout the years, but if all goes as expected it will soon be home to two businesses. Recently, the process of obtaining the necessary licenses and permits were acquired from the City of Bridgeport to all but demolish the building situated a 921 West Main Street and the corner of Corpening Drive.

According to Vince McKibben, the building will soon be home to a beauty salon. He also tentatively plans on opening a car lot as long as those necessary licenses can be acquired, which he believes he will acquire. The car lot – if opened – will be M&D Auto Mart, while the salon has not yet been named. However, the salon will be ran by his wife Kay McKibben.

“Right now, we’re working on getting the building ready. For the most part, it’s like a demolition and we plan to basically gut the entire inside of the building,” said McKibben.

McKibben is trying to get work going on a fast track. Recently, a remodeling permit was issued by the city on Jan. 12 and work has already begun. That work can clearly be seen for those driving by the business, which is situated just across the street from Wilson Martino Dental.

“At one time, I think most recently, it was a fortune teller type of business,” said Spellman.

A quick Google search of the location – 921 West Main Street – shows that it was home to a business of that nature. The name of the business located there previously was Psychic Eye. The building has also housed Wise Nutrution, Atlas Technologies and Third Millennium Marketing, according to the City of Bridgeport Finance Department.

McKibben is likely hoping his fortunes are good with the new business venture. If the car business moves forward, he already knows how things will lay out.

“I’ll be using the back area for the car lot,” said McKibben, who emphasized that the business is not 100 percent a go at this time. “I want to say that I will have an inventory of between 10 to 15 cars for sale at any given time.”

The front entry will be reserved for his wife’s new business. McKibben said she’s known in the area for her work at Attitudes.

“The reason that we’ve acquired that location for business opportunities is because of the location. There is just so much traffic that goes through there,” said McKibben of being on Main Street and the Route 50 corridor

With work underway, McKibben said he hopes to see an opening in the next few months. Ideally, he said they would both be open at the same time. That won’t be happening.

“I think the beauty salon will be in place at the first of March at the latest and, again if all goes as planned, the end of March for the car lot,” said McKibben.
