One of Harrison County's Most Popular Businesses on Way to Main Street; Bringing Sweetness with It

It was back in May of 2014 when Kaycee and Frank Crislip decided to take their passion for baking from their kitchen to the public. The decision has proven to be a life and career changing one for both.

“We took about 200 cupcakes that year to the Bridgeport Farmer’s Market and we sold them all in about 30 minutes,” said Kaycee. “We looked at each other with that what just happened looked. It was amazing to see that much support for what we offered the first time when no one knew us at all.”

In a very short order, the product the Crislip’s were selling at the Farmer’s Market (and continue to do so to this day) became known by plenty throughout Harrison County and beyond. That day was when the family had the seeds planted to take their operation from the kitchen to a storefront.

“We opened our business on Main Street in Clarksburg in 2015. It’s amazing that we left our how and how quickly it grew,” said Crislip, who said her husband quit his job to help serve as co-owner. “It was just a hobby and it’s turned into a full-time business.”

That business is known as My Little Cupcake. And that business is on its way to Bridgeport.

“It’s a tough decision to move, but one we’re able to make because of the support of the community and not just in Clarksburg and Bridgeport,” she said. “Our support is well beyond that and it’s appreciated.”

My Little Cupcake will soon be located on Main Street in the building next to the Bridgeport Dairy Queen that once housed The Hobby Stop and the offices of Dr. Susan Miller. Already, Spadafore Insurance Group is in the building.

“We’re excited for the new location. The big thing is it’s going to have parking, which has been a bit difficult at times in our current location for people who have orders they need to pick up,” said Crislip. “That’s one of the key things about the new location.”

The square footage, she said, will remain basically the same. The big difference will be the lay out.

“We’ll have a kitchen that won’t be a makeshift kitchen like we have now. We’ll have a dining area and a kids’ area, which is very important to us,” she said. “We want to maintain that family atmosphere and get the after school students and the homeschooled groups and we plan to continue to rent the shop out for birthdays.”

One other unique feature of the new location will be a 10x10 all glass garage door. That will allow for there to be seating outside for the seating that will be inside.

“This will be a fun and safe place for families to come and hang out,” she said.
The Crislip’s have been cooking for as long as they’ve been together. Kaycee said date nights before marriage often included baking.

“The baking didn’t always turn out too well, but we both loved it,” said Crislip, the mother of three children and graduate of Fairmont State College. “After having a family and graduating I wondered what would I do, and here we are.”

Crislip said the Farmer’s Market was the kick start. And she said they were opened with open arms to take part and continue to do so.

“At the Farmer’s Market, in Clarksburg and even with the new shop everyone has welcomed us. We’ve already had several local businesses reach out to us,” she said.

The goal is to be open by Nov. 1. She said they will be hosting the annual United Way Pepperoni Roll Eating Contest on Nov. 13.

“We’ll be in our current spot through October, but we have to be in there no later than Nov. 13 for our United Way event,” she said. “The plan is to be ready Nov. 1.”

My Little Cupcake sells, as its name suggests, cupcakes. They can be purchases by walk in or by ordering. They are baked fresh daily and the flavors change each week, Crislip said.

The business also offers brownies, cinnamon rolls, pepperoni rolls (with hot pepper cheese or plain) and box lunches. Crislip said kids’ activities are offered, including “kid’s days” that include authors reading, dances, crafts and more.

You can see My Little Cupcake’s “Cupcake Trailer” every week at the Bridgeport Farmer’s Market. Crislip also said the Cupcake Trailer will be going back to Clarksburg regularly once the move is made.

The hours aren’t set in stone, but Crislip said the tentative hours of operation are Tuesday through from 10 a.m. to either 6 or 7 p.m. Saturday, she said, will be a shorter day that usually focuses on orders being picked up.
