P&R Staff's Ongoing Work at Bridgeport City Pool Sure Sign Winter Weather Soon to Be Thing of Past

Even though the temperatures have warmed up in the last few days, it’s still quite a long way until warm weather becomes a permanent fixture. However, a sure sign that spring is much closer than many expect can be found at one of the City of Bridgeport’s most heavily used facilities.

Last week and into this week, staff of Bridgeport Parks and Recreation are continuing to do work on the public bathhouses at the City Pool. Work actually began prior to Winter Storm Jonas hitting and due to the staff needing to deal with snowfall, work was interrupted temporarily.

“They were able to get back at it following the storm and the cleanup of that,” said Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Joe Shuttleworth. “Once everything is complete, we think the patrons of the pool will be pleased with the finished result.”

The bulk of the work being done by staff involves the painting of the two bathhouses. Shuttleworth said it’s been five to six years since the last paintjob took place and the fresh paint is sprucing things up quite a bit.

“They’re doing all the painting inside, including the shower rooms and not just the changing areas,” said Shuttleworth. “We’ve been trying to do basic maintenance every year including a recent project where we redid the floors. The workers are also doing some routine repairs as they’re painting. Once we get everything completed, those using the pool this summer should be greeted with a fresh look.”

Upgrades on the interior buildings at the pool, as well as the Civic Center and others under the jurisdiction of the Parks and Recreation Department, are often done during cold weather months when time allows. Shuttleworth said future upgrades will continue to be made at the pool facility.
