Both sides of U.S. Route 50 were backed up with traffic following a two-vehicle accident on East Main Street in Bridgeport this afternoon. According to Bridgeport Police Officer B.P. Hyde as well as a member of the Bridgeport Fire Department, there did not appear to be life-threatening injuries in the accident.

Despite what looks like a lack of major injuries, the wreck itself produced major damage to the two vehicles involved. Major damage was sustained to the rear end of a white Dodge Caravan and the front end of a red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

Five individuals were transported to United Hospital. Both the Harrison County Emergency Squad and the Anmoore Emergency Squad assisted on the scene. According to the Bridgeport Fire Department, all the transports came from the Caravan.

The call to the Harrison County 911 center came in at 3:17 p.m., which is also one of the busiest times of traffic during the day through Main Street-U.S. Route 50 in Bridgeport. The accident occurred just past Oliverio’s Ristorante and in front of the exit to The Chiropractic Care Center. Both vehicles were situated in the eastbound side of U.S. Route 50.

Traffic was backed up at 3:45 all the way past Virginia Avenue. Various reports had traffic in the other direction past the first entrance to the Crystal Ridge Development.

At about that time, Dan Riggs Towing was beginning to move the vehicles out of the way. Officials said they anticipated traffic to begin moving shortly.

Hyde was investigating the incident for the Bridgeport Police Department. Bridgeport Police and Fire, along with Harrison County and Anmoore EMS, responded.
