Permits Acquired by Developers above Seven-Figure Range as City Board Hears Construction Update

Through the first four months of the year, the City of Bridgeport has witnessed a huge amount of construction. During a recent Bridgeport Development Authority meeting it was announced that 267 building permits have been issued totaling $21.5 million in construction activity.

The latest big projects, according to Community Development Director Andrea Kerr, are on the residential front.  And it’s what helped make up more than $3.2 million in permits during April.

“The big jump in construction in the last month is from the Meadow Creek development,” said Kerr. “Their permit total takes up $2 million for new construction that will be taking place in their development in the city.”

Meadow Creek is a residential development that is just off Meadowbrook Road. It is situated just past the Bridgeport Country Club entrance and on the opposite side of the roadway.

“They have acquired permits for two additional multi-family units,” said Kerr. “Each of the buildings will have approximately 16 units in them. We also have received plans for Phase III from the. They’re definitely not done.”

Meadow Creek was first introduced to the city in 2015 and was initially going to be called “The Meadows” before the name was changed.

Plans were publicly disclosed in December of 2015 at a Bridgeport Planning Commission meeting. Then Community Development Director Randy Spellman said it had the potential of being among the biggest multi-use residential developments in the city.

Based on the numbers, Spellman doesn’t appear to be off base. And that is the case in a city where there are numerous, high dollar residential developments in recent years.

According to numbers provided by Kerr, the development is approaching $25 million. In 2016, Meadow Creek had $13.88 million in construction followed by $5.79 million last year. Already this year the number is at $4.16 million. That comes out to $23.8 million with more residential units being planned, said Kerr.

Also last month, Kerr said Dan Ryan Builders obtained three additional permits for homes, bringing them up to 10 permits since the start of 2018. The homes are all situated in the Charles Pointe development. The three permits total $1.2 million.
