On a beautiful Thursday evening, a granite bench was unveiled in honor of the last Oscar Leonard Jeffers in a ceremony at Hinkle Lake. The bench paid tribute to Jeffers giving his life more than 61 years ago in an attempt to save three children other than his own that had fallen through the frozen lake.
