While an arrest may or may not be imminent, Bridgeport Police have made significant progress in a case involving the shooting out of a window along the city’s Main Street corridor just over a month ago, according to Bridgeport Lt. Detective Gary Weaver.

On that evening, Third Millennium Marketing had its front window shot out. Officer J.M. Holley said at the time that police found what appeared to be a nut fired from a device to break the window. The police believe that the window was shot out from a vehicle and may have been involved in past windows that were shot out at the same business and others on Main Street.

Police were able to pinpoint the shooting at roughly 11:09 p.m. that evening. How did they know that? A video surveillance system captured the incident and, because of that, Holley turned to the public for assistance.

Holley submitted video stills of the alleged vehicle to local media hoping that it would produce leads. Weaver said it did just that.

“There was very beneficial information that came from the public. What was interesting was that the information was consistent,” said Weaver.

Weaver said the information did more than provide a direction. It produced a suspect and more.

“(Police) have interviewed a suspect and are currently doing some follow-up work to the investigation,” said Weaver, who said Officer Holley is still in charge of that investigation. “We found as a result of the calls a vehicle of interest and have interviewed that owner.”

Weaver said the perpetrator once found or arrested would likely be facing charges of destruction of property. He said this case is likely not a felon because it becomes a felony based on dollar amounts. In the event an arrest is made and the individual is found responsible for other shootings of windows on Main Street – including three additional shootings at Third Millennium – they would be treated as separate charges. In other words, the damage total can’t be added up to reach the amount needed for felony charges.

The video stills from Third Millennium’s camera weren’t clear enough to show a license plate number, but they were clear enough to provide an somewhat clear view of the vehicle The car appears to be a 1990s model Cadillac Deville that was white or cream in color and Holley said it has a sunroof and part of the passenger side brake light burned out.

Holley said previously that from watching the video, you can see the individual use the device to fire the nut at the window. He said he believes, since the shot came from the passenger side, that there appears to be two individuals in the car.

Anyone that may have additional information can contact Holley. He can be reached at 304-848-6112.
