Power Outage that Left Nearly 1,300 City Residents in Dark is Fixed; Problem Arose on Lodgeville Road

A power outage that left more than 1,000 Bridgeport customers in the dark on both the residential and business side of the electrical spectural has been repaired, according to Todd Meyers, a Mon Power Spokesman.

The power outage occurred at 1:35 p.m. Power began to be restored just before 3 p.m. to all the customers impacted, Meyers said.

The cause?

"We have a substation near Lodgeville Road and I'm not sure exactly what pole near there it was, but near that substation a large birid got into the wire and the transformer was damaged as a result," said Meyers. "The protective devices opened up as a result and basically blocked out the whole district."

Meyers said this isn't a first, but birds causing this sort of outage is a rarity. He said if an animal is involved it's usually a squirrel.

"Anything that comes into the equipment of this nature is generally a recipe for an outage," said Meyers.

Crew from FirstEnergy, of which Mon Power is part of, addressed the situation. City Clerk Andrea Kerr said the outages included, but were not limited to, Johnson Avenue (from Hall Street) to Meadowbrook Mall.
