Public Assistance Helps Bridgeport Police to Locate Potential Mall Invasion of Privacy Case Suspect

There has been no arrest in a case of a man who is being sought for an alleged invasion of privacy issue at the Meadowbrook Mall, but Bridgeport Police Lt. Detective Gary Weaver said they do have a suspect in the case.

The case became public earlier this month when Bridgeport Police Officer C.B. Sayers released a photo of the alleged suspect hoping that the public would respond. According to Bridgeport Police, the man being sought allegedly used his cell phone above a door in a changing room in one of the mall's businesses. According to the date on the top of the surveillance photo the incident happened July 30.

If Sayers and the police were hopeful to get a public response, they weren’t disappointed. Weaver and Sayers weren’t disappointed. Weaver said it has led them in the direction of the suspect in question.

“The information we received from the public was and continues to be very beneficial to Officer Sayers’ investigation,” said Weaver. “As a result, we now have a suspect. We have talked to that suspect and we’re still following up on it.”

Due to it being an active investigation, Weaver could not go into details as to what was discussed with the suspect. Other information, as to age and residency, are also off limits as the investigation continues or until an arrest is made.

“We hope that this will lead to us making an arrest,” said Weaver.

If arrested, Weaver said the main charge being looked at is invasion of privacy. The charge is not a felony, but that doesn’t mean the police aren’t treating this case aggressively.

“We take this very serious and we’re going to look to see if there are other charges coming out of the investigation,” said Weaver. “At this time, I just can’t say for sure where the investigation will lead us.”

Weaver said individuals that may have any additional information that have not contacted Sayers they can still do so. He said Sayers can be reached at 304-848-6125.
