Rare Tuesday Bridgeport Council Meeting Lacks Agenda Items; Majority will be in Executive Session

It’s going to be a regular Bridgeport City Council meeting. But unless you plan on speaking during the public comments portion or are interested in a few items that take place at every meeting, there’s not a lot of meat on the bone of the agenda.

In fact, this meeting will once again almost be entirely in executive session. The only difference, according to Bridgeport Mayor Andy Lang, is that this executive session won’t involve talk on the Bridgeport Indoor Recreation Complex.

“This meeting on a Tuesday is to handle standard personnel matters we address on a regular basis and it allows us to have our second meeting for the month,” said Lang.

Bridgeport City Council typically meets the second and fourth Monday of each month. However, due to a high number of elected members being involved in Municipal League events yesterday, Council opted to hold the meeting on Jan. 23.

“Barring public comments, we’ll be going into executive session as soon as we take care of the standard items,” said Lang.

The items involve the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation by Father Chris Turner of All Saints Catholic Church. After that, the only items requiring action by Council will be the approval of minutes from the Jan. 8 regular meeting and the Jan. 15 special meeting.

“I won’t be having a mayor’s report so the only other possible item is if there is a City Manager’s report (by Kim Haws),” said Lang. “That’s going to be it and there won’t be anything coming out of the executive session.”

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Public comments to the city’s governing body are done early in every session.
