Residential Area of Bridgeport Target of Infrastructure Work to Help Improve Issues with Wastewater Flow

In an effort to improve wastewater flow from the homes along Arbor Court, the City of Bridgeport will be installing two new manholes and a new segment of sewer line between the new manholes, City Manager Brian Newton said.

Currently, sewage from homes along Arbor Court flow in an existing sewer line that cuts between Arbor Court and East North Street, then flows east along East North Street to the line on Lawman Avenue. Under the new plan, the city will install a new manhole about midpoint on the line that cuts between Arbor Court and East North Street. The city will also install a new manhole in the existing line on Pennsylvania Avenue between Arbor Court and East North Street.

Then, a new segment of 8-inch line will be installed between the two new manholes. When the work is all done, sewage from the homes along Arbor Court will flow into the sewer line on Pennsylvania Avenue instead of Lawman Avenue. Work has begun on this project.

Part of the project is being done in house, per the photo. The image shows city worker Levi Kelley drilling an 8-inch hole in one of the new precast concrete manholes. Tiny Grimes, Public Works Director, said manholes can be ordered with precut holes, but in order to save time, Grimes said the city bought manholes without holes and then staff cut them in.
