On Tuesday, Bridgeport Police responded to an accident on U.S. Route 50 within the city limits when something unfortunate happened that law enforcement is hoping you can assist them on. According to Officer A.S. Floyd, police are hoping the public can help identify a vehicle that left the scene of an accident.

“The good news is that there were no injuries with either car,” said Floyd. “Upon arrival we learned that the at-fault vehicle had left the scene of the accident.”

The vehicle in question appears to be a green Hyundai Elantra. The vehicle left the scene and headed on U.S. Route 50 West, toward Clarksburg, Floyd said.

The car being sought rear-ended another vehicle and then departed. Floyd said it should have damage, likely minor in nature, to the front end.

“The driver was described as a white male between 25 and 35 years old, no facial hair, no glasses (and) sandy blond hair,” said Floyd. “We’re hoping for the public’s help on this particular case.”

While the driver got away, there’s a chance the action may not go unpunished. Floyd said the vehicle that left the scene drove through a local business’s parking lot in speedy fashion and screen shots from the video were able to be obtained

“We hope, particularly if it’s local, that someone will recognize the vehicle in question,” Floyd said.

Leaving the scene of an accident is not considered a felony. Floyd said charges related to the act are considered to be misdemeanors.

For anyone that may have information of who believes they recognize the car in the screen shots – or both – can contact Floyd. He can be reached at 304-848-6123 or at 304-842-8260, Ext. 123.
