Severe Weather System to Hit Bridgeport with Strong Winds, Rain; Fall-Like Conditions Rest of Week

By Jeff Toquinto on September 26, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

After weeks almost consistently dry weather, a strong storm system will be moving into Bridgeport no later than mid-afternoon, according to WDTV Meteorologist Kate Mantych.

“(As of 11:45 a.m.), the system is in the middle of Ohio, but it’s heading our way,” said Mantych. “As far as when it will arrive in Bridgeport, probably around 2 p.m. and it could last until 6 p.m.”

The system, she said, will provide a marginal risk for severe weather. The main threat, according to Mantych, will be strong winds and heavy rain.

“The wind gusts could be in the 35 mile per hour range and there are going to be heavy downpours,” said Mantych. “These will be strong thunderstorms that are moving in.”

As for the possibility of flooding, Mantych said it’s unlikely. She pointed to the ongoing weather as the reason for that.

“We’re very dry right now and the ground is not saturated at all,” said Mantych. “Flooding is on the very low end of a possibility.”

There will be some chance for rain Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. Mantych said an upper level low system will provide for spotty rain, but nothing major. There is something that is coming after this system leaves the area.

“Much cooler weather will be behind this. It’s going to finally feel like fall,” said Mantych. “The rest of the week you’ll see highs in the uppers 60s and lowers 70s with mornings that will be in the 40s.”
