Sheriff Matheny: Four Dead Following Single-Vehicle Wreck on Route 19 Near Meadowbrook Interchange

By Jeff Toquinto on December 20, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Although the investigation is still ongoing, Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny has confirmed that four individuals were killed in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday evening near Meadowbrook Road.

“There were four occupants in the vehicle and all four were killed,” said Matheny. “In my opinion, it wasn’t a survivable crash.”
The accident occurred just before 10 p.m. Tuesday evening. The exact location was along U.S. Route 19 south near the Meadowbrook interchange.

“The vehicle appears to have left the roadway after crossing the center line where it struck another vehicle (parked at a car lot and unoccupied), hit a fence pole and then went airborne over an embankment,” said Matheny.

Matheny wasn’t sure how far down the car went over the embankment. He said he didn’t want to speculate, but added that it was a “significant” distance.

As for the individuals involved, Matheny said identifications won’t be released at this time. He added that not all of the four are positively identified and expects, after all proper notifications are made, to release that information publicly within the next couple of days.

The accident was handled by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department’s Patrol Unit. Matheny said the staff also had an accident reconstructionist on the scene. More details on this if, and when, they become available.
