Task Force Case Investigation on City Man Yields Another Huge Cash Discovery; This Time $697,000

The investigation involving a Bridgeport man arrested on Saturday in the northern panhandle continues to get worse for him – and appears better for those investigating the case. According to Bridgeport Police Chief and Harrison County Violent Crime and Drug Task Force Chairman John Walker Wednesday’s discovery locally of $111,000 in Clarksburg may have just been the tip of the iceberg.

Walker confirmed that today the case involving 26-year-old City resident Suhip E. Ebrahim took a substantial turn. The ongoing investigation that Walker said yesterday was steadily ongoing took law enforcement to Monongalia County today. Once there, Walker said a storage unit was discovered with $697,000.

“It was recovered as part of the investigation and found inside a storage facility in Morgantown,” said Walker.

This marks the third time since Saturday that the case involving Ebrahim has resulted in substantial dollars being found. On Saturday in the Ohio and Marshall counties area, where Ebrahim was initially arrested for having large quantities of prescription painkillers (almost 600 oxycodone), more than $100,000 in United States currency was located. The arrest, announced by U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld, was the result of work by the Ohio Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the Marshall County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.

Eventually, those Task Forces worked with the case and got the Harrison County Task Force and Bridgeport Police involved. That then led to yesterday’s situation where $110,000 was found in a Clarksburg location associated with Ebrahim. And today, the case led back to the north where the huge amount of money was located.

“It’s one of the largest currency seizures and recoveries I can ever recall,” said Walker, who has been in law enforcement for roughly 36 years. “Most of the money came in the form of $100 bills.”

Through all three cases, more than $900,000 has been recovered. The case is still ongoing, Walker said.

“This all started out with one of the patrol officers getting involved with a situation and in the course of an investigation connecting with the Task Force,” said Walker. “They put their noses together and it has led to all of this.”

Ebrahim was named Saturday in a federal criminal complaint charging him with “Possession with Intent to Distribute Oxycodone.” Ihlenfeld’s office reminded media that a complaint is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
