Traffic Delays in Place as Infrastructure Work Continues in Heart of City

By Jeff Toquinto on April 23, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Utility work that has been ongoing for several weeks in Bridgeport is back in full force today; and it’s interrupting traffic flow on one of Bridgeport’s busiest roadways. Currently, contract work being done by Dominion is taking place on Philadelphia Avenue and traffic is down to one lane.

The reason for the traffic interruption has to do with concrete work being done on an area that was previously excavated on April 16 – a week ago today. The same area, between Virginia Avenue and Johnson Avenue, is the area that was impacted early this afternoon. Flaggers are on hand directing traffic in the area.

The work, according previously to Dominion’s Bob Fulton, is part of ongoing gas line replacement in several sections of Bridgeport. Davisson Street, Stout Street, Philadelphia Avenue and Water Street are the streets that will see work or will see work.

D&M Contracting, a contractor that has also done work on various infrastructure projects for the City of Bridgeport, is Dominion’s contractor. The work they are currently doing is backing up traffic for just a few minutes of time as concrete is being poured.

Fulton said residents should only see a minor interruption of a few hours as the work progresses. The concrete work should not interrupt service as the lines are already replaced in that section.

The contractor is using a lot by Bethel Temple as its staging area. The lot, on Johnson Avenue, is filled with gravel and other materials.

Any questions regarding this ongoing project need to be directed to Dominion. This is not a City of Bridgeport funded project.
