Trial for Alleged Bridgeport "Pill Mill" Doctor Rescheduled for January

At the request of the office of the United States Attorney, the trial for a Bridgeport doctor accused of running a “pill mill” on Main Street has been rescheduled. A representative from the U.S. District Court in Clarksburg confirmed that the trial will now be held at 9:30 a.m. on Jan.5 as opposed to Nov. 5.

The rescheduling of the trial of Dr. Edita Milan was handled by U.S. District Judge Irene Keeley. The representative confirmed that the request from the prosecutor is due to a health issue. That means that the health issue involves someone from the prosecutor’s side, said the representative, as opposed to those representing Dr. Milan, who resides in Fairmont.

Milan is the top figure in a case that has witnessed multiple guilty pleas in federal court, as well as individuals being sentenced, in the case that has her allegedly writing prescriptions for large amounts of prescription pain medications. Milan ran an opioid dependency clinic, often referred to as a “pain clinic” from her office across the street from the Benedum Civic Center.

Although Milan’s case is going to trial, she’s the only person involved in the case to this point that hasn’t pleaded guilty. Among those that have pled guilty include former Bridgeport Mayor Marion Blount, Angela Davis and April Davis – all of Bridgeport. Several other individuals have also pleaded in the case.

The investigation began with citizen complaints surrounding prescription writing practices in Dr. Milan’s Bridgeport office. Eventually, a full scale investigation involving the Harrison County Drug Task Force took place. Milan’s office was initially raided by the Task Force on June 27, 2013.

Editor's Note: A Bridgeport Police truck sits outside the offices of Dr. Edita Milan as materials taken from that location were loaded into the vehicle for processing back in June of 2013.
