Three individuals from Bridgeport were among 59 indicted by the January 2019 term of the Harrison County Grand Jury, according to information provided by the office of Prosecuting Attorney Rachel Romano.

Paul Jones, 49, was the first listed on the indictment list. Jones is facing four counts that include one count of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust; one county of photographing or filming a minor in a sexually explicit conduct by a parent, legal guardian, or person having custody and control of a minor; one count of photographing or filming a minor in sexually explicit conduct; and one count of possession of material depicting minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Jennifer Rachelle Cogar, 40, was the second individual listed. She was indicted on one count of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The final person from Bridgeport listed was Jeremy Wade Broadwater. Broadwater, 39, was indicted on one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

An indictment was also returned against William Clyde Jeffries in what was likely the highest profile case. The 54-year-old Jeffries was indicted on one count of murder.

In February of 2018, Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny sent out a press release on the arrest of Jeffries for the 1981 death of Conrad Roger “C.R.” Diaz, who was seven years old.

According to the press release, “In a collaborative effort between the Harrison County Sheriff’s office and the West Virginia State Police, and following discussions with the Harrison County Prosecutor’s Office, the case was re-opened. Upon review of the case and following the development of additional evidence a suspect was identified.

“Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny and West Virginia State Police Sergeant Mark Kiddy praised the work of the lead investigators, Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Dixon Pruitt and WVSP Corporal Baron Claypool on the progress that led to an arrest from an event from 36 years ago.”

An indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
