Two Precincts Eliminated for Upcoming BOE Excess Levy Election; Impact of Change Should be Minimal

For those planning to vote in the Harrison County Board of Education Excess Levy Election here in the city, you may want to know that there have been some changes in the precincts for that particular election. According to Bridgeport City Clerk Andrea Kerr, Harrison County has eliminated two Bridgeport Precincts.

Precincts #124 and #129-A are no longer in the mix for Bridgeport voters. For those that voted at #124, they will now vote at Precinct #123, while the #129-A will vote at Precinct #129. The changes shouldn’t provide too much of an impact even for those not reading this story and showing up at their old precincts, Kerr said.

The former #124 was at Simpson Creek Baptist Church and the new precinct is actually at the same church. As for removing #129-A with #129, voters will go from the Bridgeport High School cafeteria into the BHS Home Economics room.

“It really shouldn’t be too much of a difference as the voters in both precincts will still be going to the same location,” said Kerr. “At the same time, we do want individuals to be aware that a change has been made.”

The remaining precincts, including the ones listed above, are as follows:

·         #123-Simpson Creek Baptist Church
·         #125-Simpson Elementary School
·         #126-Johnson Elementary School
·         #129-BHS Home Economics Room
·         #129-B-BHS Cafeteria

Due to the matter being handled under the direction of the Harrison County Clerk’s office as a county-wide election, early voting will not be done at the Bridgeport Municipal Complex as it was done for the most recent city election. However, there will still be early voting. Kerr early voting has already begun and individuals can vote from now until Dec. 9 – on Mondays through Fridays – from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There is also a Saturday option. This Saturday, Dec. 5, voters can vote from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All early voting is done at the Harrison County Courthouse. Phone calls or inquiries regarding the voting process need to be made to the Harrison County Clerk’s office, Kerr said.

The Levy election will be Saturday, Dec. 12 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. If approved, the levy will raise roughly $127.6 million over five years for multiple programs and funding endeavors. Harrison County has approved the levy for more than 60 years.
