A two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon along a heavily traveled section of Bridgeport roadway saw one individual taken to United Hospital Center, according to Fire Chief Phil Hart.

The accident was called into the Harrison County 911 center at 3:43 p.m. The wreck occurred on U.S. Route 50 at the intersection of Middleville Road. That area is just prior to the Taylor County line and just past Route 50’s intersection with Jerry Dove Drive.

A white Subaru and a black Chevrolet pickup were involved in the accident. Hart called it a rear-end type of collision.

There were two individuals in the car, and three individuals in the truck. The female driver of the truck was transported to United Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries, Hart said.

“The children in the pickup truck were properly restrained in their car seats. That helped them to avoid injury,” Hart said.

The one individual that was transported to UHC was taken by Fleming EMS. Bridgeport Police were handling the investigation. Hart said Officer C.W. Barto was the lead investigator on the case.

Traffic was only temporarily interrupted as one lane of Route 50 was temporarily closed. Hart said it was opened back up shortly after emergency service personnel arrived on the scene.
