A work van for a restoration company went off the road along U.S. Route 50 late Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident that backed up traffic on both sides of the roadway.

The accident took place at 4:54 p.m. in the area just past the entrance to Baker Hughes and the Crystal Ridge subdivision in a curvy area of Route 50. The truck came to rest almost completely off the road in the west bound side of the roadway facing at an angle down the hill.

Bridgeport Fire Department Lt. Richard McGwire said there were no medical transports required in the case. The Bridgeport EMS returned to the station following the call.

The matter did lead to Bridgeport Police and fire personnel having to divert traffic around the area of the incident. The backups didn’t appear to be significant as emergency service personnel appeared to have the flow going steady with limited waiting time.

Bridgeport Police Officer J.M. Holley was interviewing individuals at the scene of the incident. The city’s police is investigating the incident with Holley leading the way.

There did not appear to be significant damage to the vehicle. However, the front end was covered by trees and other vegetation along the roadway.
