Bridgeport Police assisted with an elderly individual who inadvertently drove her vehicle slowly down the sidewalk directly adjacent to the Main Street railroad intersection with Orchard Avenue near the Benedum Civic Center.

The call came into the Harrison County 911 log for a suspicious vehicle at 3:38 p.m. Officer M.P. Hammond was the first to arrive on the scene. He, along with officer C.B. Sayers, assisted in moving the brown Subaru Legacy and the police unit that made sure no other cars entered the same area.

Traffic was backed up for several minutes in the westbound side of U.S. Route 50 as the car was safely put back on the roadway. Hammond said it’s not the first time an individual has confused the area where the sidewalk appears to veer directly off the roadway with the actual road.

There was no damage to the vehicle in question and there was no damage to the sidewalk. Traffic was back to normal shortly after the vehicle was removed.
