Want to Buy an City Police Department Motorcycle or a City Ambulance? That, and More, Being Auctioned

By Jeff Toquinto on March 28, 2023 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Want to buy some City of Bridgeport equipment? Want to buy some really unique City of Bridgeport equipment?

If so, the city may have a deal for you. Right now, the City of Bridgeport currently has 12 items up for bid on the Web site govdeals.com. And three of the items are seeing some action.

As of 4 p.m. on Monday, March 27, the highest priced item on the city’s list of items up for auction is a 2015 Ford F-450 Amublance that is listed with a “blown motor.” Eight individuals have bid on it to date, and time is running out.

The particular items up for auction can be bid on until 7 p.m. March 29.

“That’s a pretty good number for the ambulance,” said City Manager Brian Newton. “It has a blown motor and it’s still drawing attention.”

Two other items are also drawing attention, and they’re a bit unique. The items in question are a 2015 Harley-Davidson Road King Police motorcycle that has had seven bidders and was sitting at $7,100 along with a 2007 Harley-Davidson Road King Police motorcycle with six bidders with a high bid of $5,001.

While the bidding will continue until the time on March 29, if there is no interest that does not mean the item will go for just a few dollars. Newton said there are safeguards.

“Like eBay, there are reserves that need to be met if put on there so no one is, in a sense, stealing it away,” said Newton. “This has turned into a really good service.”

Newton said this is not the first time the city has gotten rid of surplus on the site, nor will it be the last. He said Bridgeport is using govdeals.com to fall in line with state requirements.

“State law really dictates the manner in which items are auctioned off, and we’ve been using govdeals other than some really small items,” said Newton. “Using the site satisfied state law and, on top of that, it has a pretty wide following. We’ve been able to get well in excess of what we expected for many items. We even manage to sell a lot of old IT items.”

There are IT items among the 12 items listed this time. However, it is the vehicles that stand out.

“We knew this one would get some attention,” said Newton.

Newton said all funds raised goes back into the general fund.
