White Oaks Newest Business Holds Ribbon Cutting Event as Hermosilla’s Deli Market Serving the Area

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story ran roughly one month ago, on October 21, and since that time Hermosilla's Deli at White Oaks has officially opened. Today, an official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the location with family members, Bridgeport City officials and members of the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce on hand. Photo at the very bottom, below the second editor's note, was the food provided for the community at the ribbon-cutting event.

There’s a chance, according to a family member, that the next place to get a bite to eat in Bridgeport will be open today. There’s a 100 percent certainty, the same family member said, that you’ll be able to get a bite to eat there by the end of this month for sure.

According to Dominica Hermosilla West, Hermosilla’s Deli Market is on the cusp of being ready to open today (Saturday, Oct. 21). Many in North Central West Virginia, and particularly those in Marion County, are familiar with the business being open in some capacity since 1910.

Today, Hermosilla’s Deli Market has their base of operation on the East Side of Fairmont. And today or later this month, they’ll be opening their second location at White Oaks in Bridgeport.

The reason for not knowing a definitive date is one any individual that’s been involved in an opening a new business knows too well about – unknown issues.

“It’s been a whirlwind,” said West. “We’ve kind of been joking within the family now that when things go wrong to just laugh it off. “There have been a lot of bumps in the road, but we can see the finish line. We could be ready as early as (today), but that won’t probably be known until (today).”

West said the biggest glitch occurred once the drywall was completed and painted. She said every seam on the drywall could be seen. That, she said, was unacceptable.

“We had to repaint the entire place, which threw a wrench in our gears,” said West. “When that happened, we knew we were going to lose a lot of time from when we had hoped to open.”

The good news, according to West, is that the community seems to clamoring for an opening. She said a day doesn’t go by when she or others involved are approached about the business opening.

“I think that’s why we’re getting so antsy. The excitement up here is awesome and we here from people we don’t’ know and our friends we have that work at the FBI and in this development. They keep wanting to know when we’re going to open so that makes it exciting that we’re right there,” said West.

West said she’s noticed the steady stream of customers Bonnie Belle’s, which is located beside the Hermosilla location, has. She said based on the number of people that actually show up there after that business has closed may dictate future hours.

“I talk to them because we want to make sure we’re open when we need to be and they have such a steady flow going in and out,” said West. “We know what we plan to do, but we don’t know if it will stay that way.”

The hours of operation will begin as Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday hours will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Those hours work well for us in Fairmont, but we may have a customer with a different need here so we’ll adjust if we need to,” said West. “We realize being off the interstate and near the FBI and the hospital could also influence things so we’ll try to be flexible.”

The 1,400 square foot business was initially planning on a late summer opening. When it does open, today or in the days ahead, customers can expect much of what is in place at their Fairmont location that will remain open.

The location will feature meat from Troyer, out of the Amish Country in the Sugar Creek area of Ohio, which Hermosilla said is a high quality product. There will be imported olives and plenty of items from Penn-Mac out of Pittsburgh. There will also be the same salad bar you find in Fairmont.

To see if the business is open today or in the days ahead, there are two numbers to call. West said the store can be reached at 304-848-9282 or 304-848-9283.

Editor's Note: Top photo shows work that was taking place as of Monday of this week, while one of the sandwiches that will be featured is shown in the second photo and a platter that will be available is shown at the bottom. Third photo shows Dominica Hermosilla West with son Gibson behind one of the display units that will soon be filled with food.
