Witness Sought by Police in Bridgeport Armed Robbery Located, Interviewed

By Jeff Toquinto on July 23, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

A woman that was being sought as a potential witness to the July 7 armed robbery at the Huntington Bank in White Oaks contacted Bridgeport Police after a friend alerted her that she was wanted for questioning after seeing the story on the internet.

Detective Gary Weaver said the female being sought for questioning was witnessed in the bank’s surveillance video as being in the drive through at the time of the armed robbery. Weaver wasn’t sure if the witness’ friend noticed the article that was prevalent on the internet after being posted on Connect-Bridgeport July 16 or found out through another manner.

Regardless of how she found out, Weaver said he’s hopeful the information could assist in the arrest of the man wanted for the robbery. He said he could not release details of what was discussed in the interview of the witness.

Weaver also disclosed the one substantial piece of evidence from the incident – an orange toboggan – worn by the alleged perpetrator has been turned over to the FBI. Weaver wasn’t sure as to the specifics of what the FBI would do with the clothing that was found on Adamsville Road, which is just off of Saltwell Road outside of Bridgeport and heading toward Shinnston.

“They’re going to process it out,” said Weaver. “They have resources we simply don’t have.”

Weaver said it’s not completely unusual for another agency to process information or evidence on a case they’re heading. He said it usually depends on the case and who is involved in the investigation. He said the FBI and the Harrison County Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force are working with the Bridgeport Police on this case.

As for the individual wanted, Bank spokesperson Bill Eiler released a description of the suspect the day of the robbery. The suspect is listed as a white male, estimated to be 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a blue hoodie with a West Virginia logo, blue jeans, orange face mask with eye holes cut out (believed to be have been found as listed above) and gray gloves. He was seen in a light blue sedan (this is not the actual car) similar to the one pictured here. Weaver said they are also looking at several vehicles that match the sedan.

Information leading to an arrest could lead to a $5,000 reward being offered by Huntington Bank. Weaver also said he can be contacted at 304-842-8260. For those uncomfortable talking directly with a member of law enforcement, they can call the tip line, which is anonymous at 304-848-6149.
