Off the Shelf: Bridgeport Public Library New Facility to Get U.S. Passports on Behalf of Department of State

By Savanna Draper on January 17, 2024 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

On January 2, the Bridgeport Public Library began offering a great new service. Our library is now a passport acceptance facility! We accept passport applications on behalf of the US Department of State by appointment only. We are also able to take your passport photo. We are very excited to offer this service to our community, and so far, it has been quite successful. We currently have three passport agents who are ready to help you get where you need to go!

To book an appointment, please visit our website at bplwv.org/passport.

Please read below to discover how to take advantage of this new service.

If this is your first time applying for a passport, please have the following when you come to your appointment: a completed application, proof of US citizenship, an acceptable form of ID, and two separate payments for both the US Department of State and the Bridgeport Public Library.

The US Department of State can accept checks (personal, certified, cashier’s, traveler’s), money orders (US postal, international, currency exchange), and bank drafts. These fees can be accessed on the travel.state.gov website, which is the official government website for all passport-related information. This webpage also provides links to the first-time application, renewal application, passport replacement, processing times, types of acceptable forms of citizenship evidence, photo identification requirements, and passport photo guidelines.

The Bridgeport Public Library can accept cash, checks (personal, certified, cashier’s), money orders (US postal), and bank drafts. This will be $35 for the acceptance fee (first-time application only) and an additional $15 if you choose to have your passport photo taken here. This cost is per application and per photo.

The National Passport Information Center is available to answer additional questions and can be reached at npic@state.gov or by calling 1-888-874-2778 (TDD/TTY 1-888-874-7793).

We are looking forward to helping you reach your destination!
