Off the Shelf: Library Set to Host Back to School Bash

By Savanna Draper on August 09, 2023 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It will be time to go back to school before we know it! As you are getting your kids prepared to start a new school year, don’t forget to check out the library to get them set up for success. We offer so many tools for your student to excel in school including resources to help with homework, a quiet place to study, plenty of books for leisure reading and required school reading, and much more! This year, we will be hosting a Back to School Bash for children, teens, and families to come learn about all the library has to offer them on August 22 at 4pm. We will have the Mountaineer Therapy Dogs on hand so you and your children can destress for success!

If you don’t have time to make it to the library, there are plenty of resources that can be accessed from your home. Is your child stuck on an impossible homework question? Try our eResource HelpNow. HelpNow provides homework help with live tutors in math, science, reading, writing, social studies, PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, and state standardized tests. It also includes a 24-hour writing lab to submit essays and other forms of writing for constructive feedback. Does your child need to build their confidence in a subject area? Try Learning Express Library. This eResource offers students unlimited, 24/7 access to targeted skill-building interactive courses in math, reading, writing, and software applications. Both of these eResources plus dozens of others are accessible to you for free from your home with a Bridgeport Public Library card. If you need any help accessing any of our eResources, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

If you are looking for some reading material to get our children in the mindset of going back to school, we’ve got you covered there as well! For your younger children hesitant about starting a new school year, try Back to School, Backpack! by Simon Rich. Is this your child’s first year at school? Calm their nerves by reading Chu’s First Day of School by Neil Gaiman and Adam Rex. Starting a new year of homeschooling or beginning a homeschool journey for the first time? Try reading Help! I Just Pulled My Kids Out of School: Guidance From 17 Years of Homeschooling by Nina Elena or Homeschooling with Montessori Method: A Step-by-step Guide for Parents and Teachers by Kefas Dawop.

How ever your school year goes this year, just know that the Bridgeport Public Library is happy to support you and your family every step of the way!
