Off the Shelf: Library has what You Need to Assist in Sticking to 2023 Resolution from Books to Hobby Kits

By Savanna Draper on January 11, 2023 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

With every start of a new year comes New Year’s Resolutions. These can look like forming new habits, picking up new hobbies, or leaving things in the past. Whether your New Year’s Resolution includes committing to a healthier lifestyle, learning a craft, tackling home improvement projects, better managing your finances, or just a promise to read more books, the library has something to make sticking to your resolutions easier. Not only do we offer print books, eBooks, and audiobooks centering around all types of things that could aid you in your resolutions, but we also offer something unique, called Hobby Kits.

The library offers several different Hobby Kits that are meant to let patrons try out a new hobby to see if they like it before spending money on the hobby. Some of the Hobby Kits we offer include Candle Making, Woodcarving, Crochet, Bird Watching, and Exercise. Hobby Kits can be checked out one at a time, for up to two weeks with your library card. If you have questions about our Hobby Kits, feel free to reach out.

If you’re looking for a book for some inspiration, we have plenty you can try. This Year I Will--: How to Finally Change a Habit, Keep a Resolution, or Make a Dream Come True by M. J. Ryan answers the question of why people find it so hard to change and stick to goals. The author states that this book helps you lock on to your unique formula for planning, implementing, and seeing a life change through, so you can use it again and again to tackle anything else you'd like to do.

Go Gently: Actionable Steps to Nurture Yourself and the Planet by Bonnie Wright is a guide for sustainability at home that offers simple, tangible steps toward reducing our environmental impact by looking at what we consume and the waste we create, as well as how to take action for environmental change. This is a book of do's rather than don'ts.

Your Brain is Always Listening: Tame the Hidden Dragons that Control Your Happiness, Habits, and Hang-ups by Daniel G. Amen is written using dragons as a representation of negative impacts on our lives. It covers Dragons from the Past, Negative Thought Dragons, They and Them Dragons, Bad Habit Dragons, Addicted Dragons, and Scheming Dragons. Dr. Daniel Amen shows you how to recognize harmful dragons and gives you the weapons to vanquish them.
We hope you have a wonderful start to the new year!
