Off the Shelf: Plenty on Tap at Library for November

By Savanna Draper on November 02, 2022 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The library has plenty of programs and events happening in November to keep you and your whole family entertained! You can check out our event calendar at bplwv.org/events any time to see what events are coming up, including our recurring events and new programs. Keep reading to find out what new things we have planned for November.

First up are our adult programs. On November 7th from 5:00-6:30 PM we will be hosting a Zine Workshop. A zine is a publication you make that can be about anything! It has roots in science fiction fan communities and punk rock music, but zines encompass any independently published material. In this workshop, you will learn simple book binding techniques, get to look through examples of zines, and get to make zines of your own.

On November 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th from 4:00-5:00 PM we will have Novel Writing Workshops in honor of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.)  Chromebooks will be provided, and you will be introduced to the official NaNoWriMo website and writing platform. These workshops will provide you with a relaxed environment in which to write and get feedback on your novel. The workshop is designed for novel writers, but we welcome anyone.

On November 30th from 5:00-6:30 PM, come have some fun with our 3D Printer and make some 3D Printed Snowflakes! Ornaments will be designed by you and then printed over the following week for pick-up. Basic computer skills are strongly recommended, but no prior 3D design experience is required.

We have several programs for children and teens too! On November 9th from 3:00-4:00 PM come try out our 3D pens for some 3D Doodles!
Family Read Week is November 13th-20th and we’re celebrating by hosting some fun programs! On November 14th from 3:00-4:00 join us as we decorate some Super Reader Masks! On November 15th from 4:00-5:00 PM we will have a Comic Craft where you can come and create your own comic or collage. Lastly, we will have Super Hero Training on November 18th from 3:00-4:00 PM where little ones can come practice moves like web toss and super kick.

We also have two upcoming events open to all ages. The library will host a Local Author Meet and Greet on November 14th from 4:00-6:00 PM where you can come meet local authors Zanna Archer, Cathy Bonstetter, James Crosby, Henry Arnold Davis, Amy Denson, Colleen Driscoll, Christina Hooker, Betty Larosa, JoAnn James, Alicia Matheny, Lisa McCombs, Diane Tarantini, Peter Taylor, Diana Pishner Walker, and Linda Zinn.

Lastly is our monthly Sign Language class, Signing Made Easy on November 15th from 5:00-7:00 PM. Join us as we learn signs for Thanksgiving, food, and travel.
