It’s time again for our Seed Library to open for the season! Established last year, our Seed Library proved to be a very popular and essential resource in our community. Collectively, community members borrowed 404 packets of seeds last year. That’s an incredible number of seeds, and we are so excited to do even better this year! Our Seed Library is located in the front lobby of the library.

 

The Seed Library has been freshly restocked for the 2024 season. You will find many different varieties of flowers, herbs, greens, beans, corn, peppers, tomatoes, melons, root vegetables, and much more! As seeds are taken, we do our best to restock as frequently as possible so there is always a good variety to choose from.

 

A library card is not required to use the Seed Library, and there is no cost involved. However, to ensure everyone in our community has equal opportunity to enjoy the Seed Library, we do enforce a few rules. Each family is limited to five packets of seeds per visit, and you must take your packets to the front desk and fill out the Seed Library Log. Other than those two rules, we just hope that you enjoy your seeds!

 

You do not need to donate seeds to use the Seed Library. However, donating some of the seeds you save from the crops you grow or seeds you buy will help keep the Seed Library going year after year. We accept non-GMO, preferably organic seeds. We do not accept hybrid seeds. Currently, The Seed Library needs flower and herb seeds— of any variety. If you would like to donate, please see the front desk. Due to a generous donation from the Bridgeport Home Depot last year, the Seed Library is well stocked on vegetable seeds for the 2024 season.
