Finishing Touches in Place on Project at Recreation Complex Ahead of First Taste of Winter Weather

Winter’s breath may have covered the area this past week, but not before a project costing thousands of dollars was completed at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex. According to P&R Deputy Director Joe Shuttleworth, a new fence was installed around the new and existing storage facilities at the complex.

“The new building was installed to better take care of the equipment we had and it was put up in an area highly visible at the complex,” said Shuttleworth. “The new fence, or new privacy fence, helps buffer some of the view of the storage area from the rest of the complex.”

For those who believe the fence was installed for aesthetic purposes only, that would be an incorrect assumption. The fence also meets its primary mission.

“You always want to provide a secure area for your equipment,” said Shuttleworth. “With the fence up, we have a secure area for equipment and materials.”

The project is one of several that have been completed at the Recreation Complex in recent months. Along with the installation of the new storage building, the completion of a new concession stand and the installation of a new infield watering system have been put in place. City staff has also done sod work on all four fields in an attempt to get the playing surfaces in prime condition for the upcoming season.

Neel’s Fencing, which is located along Lodgeville Road, provided the fencing and the labor for the fence. Parks and Recreation Director Don Burton said the cost of the project was $15,866.02.

Activities are complete at the Recreation Complex for 2014. Burton said the first action – weather permitting – could begin in late March of 2015.
