Hundreds of Thousands Planned for Annual Street Repaving, Repairs; See if Your Street is On List

By Jeff Toquinto on May 18, 2013 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Since Tom Brown has been the Bridgeport City Engineer, and even before that, contactors have annually done paving and concrete repairs to roads during the warm weather months. This year will be no exception.

Currently, Bridgeport is accepting bids for the 2013 road repair and paving season. Bids will be received until 2 p.m. at May 30.

“It’s the same program that we do every year and we based it off of master list that we have with ratings of all the street in the city. The list tells us the condition of those streets from last year and we go back check the worst ones first to make nothing has deteriorated or gotten worse,” said Brown. “Recently, we went out and reviewed all of the streets again and have a list of the ones we believe are the worst and need to be done.”

Based on that, Brown submitted the request for bids. He said the concrete street repairs and the asphalt replacement – and in many cases removal as well – will also be more than six figures. The city has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars annually on road repairs, which is required as part of the levy approved by Bridgeport voters.

“We try to match the levy dollars with the repairs needed, but often the need is higher. Council, just about every year, has approved more than the levy dollars needed to make repairs,” Brown said.

This coming Thursday, a pre-bid conference will be held at 10 a.m. in the Bridgeport Municipal Complex Conference room.

So what roads are planned for repairs? Here’s the list of roads scheduled to be upgraded. The list could change based on bids being too high and not enough dollars available to do all the work. The repairs are either for all or partial parts of the street.  Some areas are spelled out below, while areas planned for concrete sidewalk repairs are also listed.
