One of City's New Residential Developments Nearly at $8 Million in Structures as Part of Rapid Build Out

It’s not in the heart of Bridgeport and even though it’s located right off a heavily used roadway, many may not have seen what’s taking place just off of Meadowbrook Road. And for those that think there’s not a whole lot going on, understand there is currently nearly $8 million in construction taking place.

Less than a year ago, the old Belcastro Farm property – or 38 acres of it – was what it always was and that was rolling land. While the land still has some of its contour, it’s no longer grass and trees.

A project that began after the developer AB Contracting out of Point Pleasant appeared before the Planning Commission in December is not only moving along, but moving along at a blazing rate of speed. The marketing specialist for the company, Melanie Goode, promised the Commission that once they got started they intended to make things happen quickly.

It’s obvious her statements weren’t hyperbole.

At the moment, there are a total of 16 structures under construction at a new residential development known as Meadow Creek. The building consists of townhomes and apartment buildings.

“They total 76 dwelling units that will be for rent or purchase.  The total investment for structures at this point is $7,952,650.00,” said Bridgeport Community Development Director Randy Spellman. “This does not include the investment for infrastructure, only the buildings.”

What that means is that the investment in the property is substantially higher. In fact, Spellman said the project is one of the most unique residential developments he’s had in his long career with the city that dates back to the 1980s.

“In my career, this is the largest residential development in the City of Bridgeport to be constructed at this pace.  Most residential developments take years to build out, but Meadow Creek is doing a remarkable job of providing a diverse base of residential opportunities for people wanting to reside in Bridgeport in an expeditious manner,” said Spellman.

Even if the project weren’t residential, it would still grade out as one of the largest in recent memory. And Bridgeport has been fortunate to have multiple development efforts and individual projects in the millions and even tens of millions of dollars in recent years.

“This is a massive project and the city is very appreciative of the commitment from the developer of Meadow Creek and the city wishes them much success as they continue this project,” said Spellman.
