After suffering its first loss of the season, Bridgeport also suffered a drop in the WVSSAC Class AA standings that just came out.

 

The Indians, who were ranked No. 2 last week, fell to the No. 8 spot in the latest poll. The Indians are the second highest ranked Class AA team behind No. 7 James Monroe.

 

Bridgeport is currently tied with future foe North Marion. Both teams are 3-1.

 

Bluefield remains solidly in the number one position this week with a 4-0 record. Fairmont Senior comes in at No. 2, while Mingo Central is No. 3 – both teams are 4-0.

 

Making a big jump in the standings is Liberty. The Big 10 school is 3-0 and ranked No. 4 in the standings. Nicholas County rounds out the top 5 with a 4-0 record.

 

Future Bridgeport foe Keyser is also ranked in the playoff field if they were to start today. The Golden Tornado, 2-1, is ranked No. 13. Future foe Elkins, 2-1, is ranked No. 15. The only other local Class AA team in the top 16 is Grafton at 3-1. The Bearcats are ranked No. 14.

 

As far as future foes, Lincoln at 2-2 is ranked No. 19. Friday’s opponent, Robert C. Byrd, is also 2-2 and comes in at No. 23.

 

In Class A, South Harrison is ranked No. 3.

The WVSSAC poll is a computer-based poll. The poll’s rating system is based on wins against teams in your own class and others and the results of the teams you’ve beaten. The final rankings are important as the top 16 teams in each classification make it to the postseason in their respective classifications.

 

The MetroNews poll is a ranking based on the votes of 30 broadcasters and sportswriters across the state. The MetroNews Poll has no impact on postseason positioning, but gives a few of how the media perceives teams statewide.
