Annual Reppert-Jamison-Reep Golf Tournament to Continue; Friends of Bridgeport Football to Handle

For anyone that heard the annual Mary A. Reppert-Wayne Jamison-Bob Reep Golf Tournament wasn’t going to take place this year, those involved with this year’s event say that’s not the case. However, the tournament will have a bit of a new feel to it.

“We’re wanting the public to know that it’s continuing and that it’s got a bit of change this year,” said Travis Jones, who serves as the Voice of the Indians on the WAJR Radio network. “This year, it’s the same tournament, but it’s being presented by the Friends of Bridgeport Football.

This year will mark the 19th year of the event that was started as the brainchild of the late Bob Reep, who wanted a way to honor long-time BHS football Coach Wayne Jamison and the late Reppert. The event has grown to the point where it funds multiple scholarships each year. In fact, tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships have been presented, said Jones, thanks to the dedication of those that have handled the program.

“You see people like Fay Jamison, Steve and Darletta Stout, Alice Rowe and so many others that have given so much time in honor of those the tournament has been named after. Those individuals are still involved and will be involved as much as they want as we certainly won’t be stepping on anyone’s toes” said Jones. “After nearly two decades, our group (the Friends of Bridgeport Football) wanted to see if we could step in and help out to keep the scholarships funded and help our organization out as well.”

Jones said the date for this year’s event is July 14. He said registration is not yet being taken, but that he wanted to squash any concerns that the tournament wouldn’t be taking place and he hoped that those that like to take part will reserve the date on the calendar. Jones did say that the Friends of Bridgeport Football will not be having a separate golf tournament.

“It’s a combined effort and it makes sense to leave it in the names of those individuals because it speaks volumes to the love and commitment Mrs. Reppert and Wayne had to the care of the football program,” said Jones. “It’s part of many things that make the program successful year in and year out and then you have a man like Bob Reep that had the vision to do something like this that in place now for nearly 20 years.”

While registration will be announced at a later date, Jones said new volunteers are being sought to help. He said anyone interested in assisting can contact him at 304-625-1420.
