BHS Moves Up in MetroNews Poll after Keyser Win

By Jeff Toquinto on October 22, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Sports journalists across West Virginia were impressed enough by Bridgeport’s road win Friday to vote it to move up in this week’s MetroNews High School Football Power Rankings. The fact that it was against a top 10 team in Class AA probably didn’t hurt.

Thanks to the Indians 28-19 win at Keyser, they moved up one spot in this week’s Class AA poll. The Tribe finds themselves ranked No. 4, which is one spot up from last week’s No. 5 position.

BHS jumped over Point Pleasant. PPHS, despite toppling Man by a 49-0 score, fell from No. 3 to No. 5 in this week’s standings. However, Point Pleasant could jump back up this week as it plays host to Class AAA No. 2 Spring Valley.

Fairmont Senior remains No. 1 in the standings – and still unanimous with all 20 first place votes. The votes are from radio broadcasters and sports writers from across West Virginia.

Bluefield, 7-1, remained No. 2. The defending state champions toppled Oak Hill by a 49-6 score. Poca also jumped up one spot. The 8-0 Dots toppled Scott by a 45-6 score.

Only one other local school is ranked in the top 10. Robert C. Byrd moved up one spot to No. 8 following its 49-20 win against homestanding Liberty.

With the loss to Bridgeport, the Golden Tornado fell out of the top 10. KHS, however, is first among the teams in the “also receiving votes” portion of the contest.

In Class A, Doddridge County remained at No. 3 and are now 8-0. The Bulldogs topped Valley Wetzel by a 42-0 score.

Click HERE for the top 10 in all three classifications. The WVSSAC poll will be released Tuesday. That poll determines the 16 teams in the playoff field in all three classes.
