Bridgeport Boys Basketball Team Sees Slight Fluctuation in Latest MetroNews Power Index Ratings

By Jeff Toquinto on January 29, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For the second straight week, the Bridgeport boys’ basketball team’s standing in the MetroNews Power Index fluctuated slightly. This time, however, the Indians saw a change in their overall ranking as opposed to their standing in Class AA.
Last week, Bridgeport was ranked No. 2 in Class AA behind Westside and No. 6 in the overall standings, which is for all three classifications in West Virginia. This week, the Tribe is still No. 2 in Class AA, but dropped down to No. 7 in the overall standings.

Once again, the Renegades – the team BHS beat in the 2013 state boys’ tournament and lost to in last year’s tourney in Charleston – are ranked No. 1 in Class AA. Westside comes in at No. 6 in the overall standings with an 11-1 mark. Bridgeport is currently 12-0 after toppling Elkins Tuesday. The Indians visit Class AAA Buckhannon-Upshur this evening at 7:30 p.m.

Ironically, the state’s top team in the overall standings and in Class AAA is Morgantown. The Mohigans have two losses; one of which came against Bridgeport. No Class AAA in the state is undefeated, while Bridgeport, Poca and Fairmont Senior are the only three schools in the state that have yet to suffer a loss.

Westside, Bridgeport and Poca (12-0) round out the top three, while Fairmont Senior comes in at No. 4 with a 13-0 mark. Robert C. Byrd is No. 5 in Class AA with an 8-4 record. Bridgeport will battle the Eagles in Clarksburg Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

BHS still has two games against the Polar Bears, as well as two games against Class AAA Preston. The Knights (12-2) are ranked No. 11 overall. Two games also wait against Lincoln. The Cougars are 11-2 and stand at No. 21 in the overall standings and No. 6 in Class AA.
