Bridgeport's Girls Track Team 2nd at State Meet by Slimmest of Margins; Boys Finish in 5th Place

By Jeff Toquinto on May 23, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For the Bridgeport High School girls track team, the difference between a second straight state championship proved to be by the smallest margin possible. While that proved to be the case, it didn't work out in the Indians' favor.

Incredibly, the  Tribe finished second with 69 points. Berkeley Springs spoiled the part for BHS by finishing with 69.33 points.

Berkeley Springs was able to win despite the efforts of senior Kayla Haywood. In her final meet with Bridgeport, Haywood finished as the high point medalist in Class AA.

Things were just as difficult on the boys' side, although Ritchie County was able to get the title. The boys finished in fifth place, but were just five points away from finishing in second.

While the Rebels were first and the Indians fifth, three other teams were between them. Roane County came in second, Poca was third, while Keyser came in fourth.

Check back with Connect-Bridgeport early next week for a recap and more from the state meet.
