Due to Vacations with Administrators and Candidates, BHS Boys Hoops Coach to be Named in August

Who will be the next boys’ basketball coach at Bridgeport High School?

For those wondering, the answer will likely come some time in August, according to Bridgeport High School Principal Matt DeMotto. And the reason for it coming in that time has nothing to do with anything difficult about filling the process.

“The interview process has been delayed by several weeks as the result of vacations. We have several candidates and we also have members of the administration, myself included, that have taken vacations,” said DeMotto. “When that happens, it’s a little more difficult lining things up.”

The job was posted some time back and the posting has since been removed. Candidates will be interviewed starting today and it will continue “for a few weeks,” DeMotto said. Once done, the administration will send a recommendation to the Harrison County Board of Education to be approved to not approved.

“We want to give everyone an opportunity to sit down and do interviews. We could have done phone interviews, but it’s something I don’t prefer if time isn’t an issue as it’s not completely fair to the candidates,” said DeMotto. “This is a position that doesn’t have to be filled immediately. There are times when we have teaching positions needing filled immediately where you have little choice but to do phone interviews.”

DeMotto said there were “several applicants” for the position. The spot became open in early June when Mike Robey stepped down after seven years as the Indians head coach.
