Fans of Indians Football to Have Access to What Could be First-Ever High School Football App

Whether the 2015 Bridgeport High School football season brings an unprecedented third-straight state championship remains to be seen. What is more certain at this point is there will be a much easier way to follow the Indians’ journey and gather information.

Travis Jones, the “Voice of the Indians,” has announced that the Indians Radio Network – 103.3 WAJR FM – will be offering an App for those who get their information via cell phones, tablets and other similar devices. Jones said the latest addition is part of continuing trend of the radio network to add something new each year.

“We always want to add something and do something different and we thought about the Web site concept, which has already been done,” said Jones. “I thought about something that may be more convenient for the fans to get information.”

The convenience will be the Indians football App that will be available in August. Jones said that, although not certain, this may be the only one its kind in the country.

“The best that I can tell and I can’t say this and be 100 percent certain, but in the process of doing this and through my searches, I’ve not seen another high school program with their own App,” said Jones. “It may be out there and if it is it’s extremely rare. I’ve even looked at some of those big Class 6A programs in Texas to see if they have them and to the best of my knowledge they do not.”

The key reason to create the App is to make it easier for those wanting to listen to the BHS football games to have an easy resource to do so via cell phones, tablets or other devices, to listen to the games.  That, he said, is not the only reason and won’t be the only feature accessible through the new feature.

“One of the things this will do is let me be able to finally tell someone they can actually listen to a game that’s already been broadcast because that’s one of the most frequent requests,” said Jones. “I think that is a major selling point, moving forward, with the App will be the archives.”

The archives will include all games starting this year as well as all segments of the Coach Josh Nicewarner show. And once boys basketball season starts, all of those games will be archived as well along with baseball. WAJR, said Jones, does at least 10 baseball games per year.

Also part of the APP will involve information from Connect-Bridgeport. Whether it’s a game or feature story, or even photos from Ben Queen of www.benqueenphotography.com, the App will direct you to that information.

“We’re excited about the partnership with Connect-Bridgeport. All of their game stories, game previews, photo galleries, features and other information they have on football will be available by going through the App,” Jones said.

The App will feature two buttons. One button will provide a continual stream to WAJR 103.3 FM around the clock. There will be two buttons, one will be listen live to WAJR 103.3 on the station’s programming all the time on a live stream. The other button will be connect individuals to the podcast page of various past games and interviews, the Connect-Bridgeport information, team schedule, roster, statistics and more.

“Honestly, I didn’t even know if we could do this because I wasn’t sure of the logistics involved and the cost,” said Jones. “As it turned out, it’s a cost effective tool and is fairly easy, although a little time consuming, to put together.”

As mentioned, the App will be free and available in August. Check back to Connect-Bridgeport.com for its official release. Although perhaps the first prep high school App, the Bridgeport track program instituted its App in 2009.
