Following Loss to Top-Ranked Fairmont Senor, Tribe Falls in Latest MetroNews Football Power Rankings

Bridgeport’s first loss of the season dropped them in the latest version of the MetroNews High School Football Power Rankings. However, the fall wasn’t too far.

Following Thursday’s 34-15 loss to Class AA top-ranked Fairmont Senior, the Indians fell from No. 3 to No. 4 in the latest version of the standings. The poll is voted on by a panel of radio broadcasters and sports writers from across West Virginia.

The Tribe, 3-1, has been in either the No. 3 spot or the No. 4 spot since the preseason. The only team they have flipped positions with is Keyser, and the Golden Tornado is the team that jumped BHS this week.

KHS toppled Weir by a 49-0 score to move to 4-0 on the year. Keyser will visit Bridgeport later this year.

The Polar Bears win didn’t phase the 17 voters this week. FSHS received 16 of the 17 first place votes after the win and will take its 4-0 record to University to battle the Class AAA Hawks this week.

Bluefield, the preseason No. 1, remains in the second spot. The 2-1 Beavers had a bye week and will play host to Richlands (Va.) this week.

Bridgeport’s opponent this Friday is also ranked in the top 10. The Indians will visit the 10th-ranked Robert C. Byrd Eagles in Clarksburg.

RCB, 3-1, dropped three spots in the poll despite getting the win. The Eagles downed ‘AAA’ Preston in Kingwood by a 28-18 score.

Future Bridgeport opponent North Marion is in the “also receiving votes” portion of the ‘AA’ standings. Liberty (Harrison) is also receiving votes in this week’s poll.

In Class A, Doddridge County remains second with a 3-0 record. The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week. Martinsburg, 4-0, is a unanimous No. 1 in Class AAA.
