The voting for the best Division 2 women’s basketball point guard in a nationwide vote that involved former Bridgeport High School standout Miki Glenn is complete. The former Class AA player of the year, West Virginia player of the year and state champion ended up faring quite well in the HERO Sports Award poll.

 

The starting floor general for California (Pa.) actually fared extremely well. A total of nine players from across the country were included in the poll and there was also a place to write in choices for those not nominated.

 

Much like when she did when she was a member of the Indians  playing for former Coach Dave Marshall, Glenn dominated the competition. She not only won the competition, but actually had more than half of the votes. Glenn finished with 665 votes – or 50.3 percent – to take the top honors in the voting that ended Friday.

 

Shelby Winkleman of Central Missouri was second with 425 votes (32.15 percent). Kiana Johnson of Virginia Union was a distant third.

 

Glenn and the Vulcans, the defending D2 champions, are currently 16-5 and first in their division in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Cal upended Davis & Elkins Saturday by a 101-56 score and Glenn had another huge outing.

 

She finished with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting and had a game-high total of 11 assists in 32 minutes of action. The talented point guard did not have a turnover.

 

In the previous game, Glenn almost had a triple double as she finished with 19 points while adding 11 assists and seven steals, plus six rebounds, and played all 40 minutes. Cal won 84-66 of the University of Pitt-Johnstown.

 

The junior point guard is having another banner year. As a sophomore, she averaged 16.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.6 steals in 38.5 minutes per game.
