Important Message from BHS Principal Matt DeMotto on Issues Relating to Prep Postseason Football

When the high school football postseason rolls around, any coach will tell you that things are much different. And when it comes to the ancillary items involving the games, Bridgeport High School Principal Matt DeMotto will tell you things are much different there as well.
The differences are something DeMotto wants the community – both locally and afar – that plan on attending Friday’s Class AA first round 
playoff game to know about. At 7:30 p.m., second-ranked Bridgeport will play host to No. 15 Lewis County at Wayne Jamison Field.

According to DeMotto, all tickets purchased at the gate will be $7. That price is the same for students, seniors and any adult entering the contest.
However, there is a way to save some money if you are a student. DeMotto said tickets will be sold Wednesday and Thursday at lunchtime at the school for $5.
Adults wishing to purchase tickets prior to the game Friday can do so but will still pay $7. They need to have a Bridgeport High School student purchase the ticket for them in order to avoid the possibility of being stuck in a line.
For those thinking Bridgeport or other schools hosting a first-round playoff game is having a money grab, DeMotto said that’s not the case. In fact, he said the matter is completely out of the hands of BHS.
“Once tournament play starts, the tournament belongs to the WVSSAC. What that means is that it belongs to every member school in the state,” said DeMotto. “We’re hosting on behalf on the WVSSAC, which is an enormous group that we’re part of it.”
DeMotto said all proceeds from ticket sales go to the WVSSAC. After that, a share of the proceeds then goes to Bridgeport High School and Lewis County. He said it’s the same format for every playoff game in West Virginia.
Bridgeport High School does keep proceeds from concession sales. DeMotto said no one will be permitted along the sideline without a field pass on either the home or visiting side. More on that later on Connect-Bridgeport.
Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Mark Jones wants individuals who usually are on the sidelines that aren’t a team member to contact him to acquire a field access pass. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
