Indians' Greely Named One of State's Top 11 Hoops Players on Gazette-Mail Preseason Honor Squad

The start of Bridgeport High School’s boys’ basketball season is still almost a month away, but already the Indians are drawing some statewide attention. Recently, the Charleston Gazette-Mail released its 2015-15 boys’ preseason all-state basketball team and the Tribe was represented.

Senior post player Nick Greely was one of 11 players statewide on the first team and just one of two from Harrison County. Notre Dame point guard Jarrod West, a junior, was also named to the unit.

Greely will be in his second season with the Indians after his family moved to the Bridgeport district last year. The 6’7 post player averaged 20 points, nine boards and three blocks per game as he played a key part in the Indians making it to the Class AA semifinals last year.

The post player is drawing Division I attention. Earlier this year, he received scholarship offers from Virginia Military Institute and the University of Maine. Recently, Air Force also offered.

No Indians were on the second team, but it did have some local flavor. Senior Robert C. Byrd point guard Luke Dyer was listed, as was fellow senior floor general Darhius Nunn of Fairmont Senior.

Bridgeport did get one more player in the “players to watch” section of the poll. Senior Dante Bonamico – one of three starters returning along with Donald Kummer – was named to the squad.

According to the WVSSAC schedule Web site, Bridgeport opens the 2015-16 season on Dec. 19 at Chapmanville High School. The Tribe’s first game is listed for Dec. 30 against Ravenswood.
