Whether Bridgeport has a chance to make it to the Class AA state championship game and defend its last two state championships will unfold this coming Friday. This morning, Fairmont Senior – BHS’s opponent – chose to play the game at 7:30 p.m. that evening at Wayne Jamison Field.

Both teams advanced with wins this weekend. The Indians toppled Robert C. Bryd Friday by a 41-13 score, while the Polar Bears won a shootout with Keyser by a 58-42 score.

Fairmont could have opted to play the game Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as well as Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the WVSSAC allows visiting teams to choose 1:30 p.m. on Friday if they wish. However, it will go at the standard kickoff time.

The matchup will pit the No. 1 and No. 4 teams in the state. BHS is 11-0-1, while Fairmont is 10-2-0. The Indians won the regular season matchup between the two teams.

The other side of the bracket will feature a Friday game as well as No. 7 Mingo Central will visit No.  3 Tolsia. That game will also be played at 7:30 p.m.

The winners will meet Friday, Dec. 4 for the Class AA title. That game will be played at Wheeling Island Stadium.
