UPDATE: Bridgeport's baseball team moved to 32-3 Thursday with an 8-3 win at Ripley thanks to the one-two pitching of Logan Smith and Tanner Furbee.

Smith went the first four innings and gave up three runs on three hits with a walk and strikeout. Furbee went the final three frames and allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out one.

Four players - Hunter Mann, Dante Bonamico, Zach Hineman and Elijah Drummond - all had two hits for the Tribe in their 11-hit attack. Drummond's total included a double, while Bonamico belted a home run.

BHS is back in action today. Details in story below.

ORIGINAL (5-21-15) The somewhat cold and rainy weather hasn't deterred the Bridgeport baseball team from competing tonight and - barring a barrage of poor weather - tomorrow, Coach Robert Shields said.

The Indians will return to regular season play this evening with a 6 p.m. visit to Ripley. Shields said just before noon today that he had talked to the Vikings coach and their field was in playing condition.

"We're ready to go," said Shields. "It's important to remain on top of your game during the break between the postseason games."

The Indians are able to play 32 regular season games and already have 30 in. Although they have advanced to play in the Class AA, Region II semifinal next week, due to the break between sectional dates as the result of statewide school testing, teams are allowed to pick up games with clubs that are still alive in the postseason to stay sharp.

“We want to get in two more games before the postseason starts back up,” said Shields.

Although Shields had hoped to play one more game at home, the Indians will now play a neutral site game Friday. The Tribe will go up against Moorefield at 6 p.m. at Elkins High School.

Bridgeport recently captured the sectional title by beating Lincoln in a double elimination tournament. The Indians had to fight out of the loser's bracket after getting beat by Lincoln in the first game of the postseason. BHS bounced back to beat Robert C. Byrd in an elimination game and then swept the Cougars to move on to next Tuesday's semifinal game against Liberty.

The Tribe will host Liberty at 6:30 p.m.
