Another win by Bridgeport coupled by the first loss of the year by Fairmont Senior have the Indians back on top of the latest WVSSAC prep football standings. The Indians, 8-0, took over the spot thanks to a 35-7 win against North Marion.

Thanks to the win over the Huskies, coupled with a 35-24 setback to Jefferson by the Polar Bears, the Tribe is this week's No. 1 squad in Class AA.

The Indians, if they win out, would finish the year ranked No. 1 and have home field advantage throughout the postseason. Winning out won't be an easy chore.

BHS's final two games of the season are on the road and are against two of the state's top-ranked teams. This Friday, the Indians will face off against 5-2 Keyser. The Golden Tornado are ranked No. 10 in this week's standings.

Bridgeport will then close the season against Fairmont Senior. The 6-1 Polar Bears, thanks to playing a bear of a schedule didn't drop too far. FSHS is currently ranked No. 2 after their initial setback.

Only two other teams remain unbeaten in Class AA. Mingo Central and Point Pleasant are both 7-0 and tied for the No. 3 spot. James Monroe, 6-1, rounds out the top five.

Other local squads in the mix include North Marion, Lincoln and Liberty.  The Huskies are No. 9, the Cougars comes in at No. 11 and the Mountaineers are back in the playoff hunt at No. 15. Lewis County is on the outside looking at at the No. 18 spot.

In Class A, South Harrison is in the No. 3 spot. The 7-0 Hawks trail East Hardy and Fayetteville. They will square off against 7-0 and No. 5 St. Marys Friday in Lost Creek in a game that could give them a bump up in the rankings with a win.
