By Jeff Toquinto on September 18, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

After coming in at No. 4 in the first release of the WVSSAC high school football power ratings, Bridgeport dropped in the second release of the standings. Following their 45-14 setback to Fairmont Senior on Thursday, the Indians fell six spots to No. 10 with a 3-1 record.

Bridgeport will look to improve on its position this Friday and they have an opponent that can help it do just that. However, things won't be easy as BHS will face off with 3-1 Robert C. Byrd, currently ranked No. 7 at Wayne Jamison Field. The Eagles are tied at the spot with 4-0 Oak Hill.

Bluefield remains No. 1 in the standings at 3-0. The Polar Bears, 4-0, come in at No. 2. The rest of the top five consists of 4-0 Nicholas County at No. 3, Petersburg (3-0) at No. 4, and Point Pleasant (4-0) and No. 5.

Grafton and Elkins, both Big 10 schools, are tied at No. 16 and both are 2-1. Bridgeport will play Elkins later this year. Future foe Keyser (2-1) is coming off a huge win against Weir and is ranked No. 15.

The WVSSAC poll is the one that matters for postseason positioning. The poll is a computer-based poll and the top 16 teams in each classification advance to the playoffs.
