Long-Time RCB Football Coach Josh Gorrell Resigns

By Jeff Toquinto on June 05, 2023 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

When Bridgeport takes on Harrison County and Big 10 Conference football foe for the 2023 season, there will be a new individual handling the head coaching position.

According to the personnel portion of the Harrison County Board of Education’s June 6 meeting agenda, long-time Coach Josh Gorrell has submitted his resignation. Although the resignation has to officially be approved by the BOE, the acceptance of them is generally a formality.

The agenda actually lists his resignation being effective back on May 23.

Gorrell is one of many coaches that has led the RCB program to success over the years and into a perennial contender on the Class AA level. The Eagles also have had success during their stint in the Class AAA ranks.

Along with Gorrell, the Eagles have had Bryan Fisher on the sidelines along with two coaches with Bridgeport ties. RCB’s first coach was long-time Wayne Jamison assistant Richard Iaquinta, while former BHS state championship coach Bruce Carey also coached for a few years at the Clarksburg school.

Gorrell also served the school as an assistant coach for several years as well. He began his career in 1996 as an assistant at Liberty High.

He first served as head coach in 2010. Gorrell took the job again in 2016 and held it until this past season.

As for who will be next, that will be determined at a future meeting of the Harrison County Board of Education. It will come after a job posting and interviews by the BOE.

BHS won this year’s battle 42-0 on the Jamison Field turf. The two teams will meet in Clarksburg this year on Sept. 22.

Connect-Bridgeport wishes Gorrell the best of luck in all of his future endeavors.
